The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority confirmed that  no tourist had been sexually assaulted or killed in the Bentota area.

"No such incident has been reported from the Southern province," the SLTDA said, quoting the Tourist Police Division.

"We wish to state that the video footage currently being shared on some social media and messaging platforms is misleading," it also added. 

A video footage of a girl's dead body was shared widely among social media users in Sri Lanka yesterday saying she was a Saudi tourist who was raped and killed in Bentota.
