The Excise Department today announced that production of distilleries under Perpetual Treasuries has been suspended due to non-payment of taxes. 

W.M. Mendis and Co, a well-known liquor company, was bought over by the Perpetual group recently.

The suspension came a day after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested Aloysius in connection with the bond investigations. 

Meanwhile, Janayugaya, the Sinhala daily owned by Aloysisus, has also faced closure. 

The newspaper has not come to market since last week and a sizable proportion of its journalists have joined other newspaper companies.
