Sri Lankan High Commissioner In London Amari Wijewardena Steps Down From Position 'On Her Own Volition'

Sri Lankan High Commissioner to London Amari Wijewardena stepped down from her position today. 

Issuing a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the High Commissioner concluded her contract on her own volition by March 31, 2018. 

The Ministry also said the media reports of her resignation were incorrect. 

Wijewardena is a close relative of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The reports of her resignation came shortly before Brigadier Priyanka Fernando. the defence attache of the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, returned to the country for a consultation. 

However, the External Affairs Ministry sources said the two incidents had no connection.
