President Maithripala Sirisena instructed  the relevant authorities to expeditiously complete the renovation works of 2400 irrigation tanks in the Dry Zone.

President Sirisena Gave this instruction addressing the Special Coordination Committee Meeting of the Polonnaruwa district at the Thamankaduwa Divisional Secretariat, yesterday (26). 

During the meeting, the  President was briefed about the development projects in the Polonnaruwa district. 

The President also directed to conduct review meetings continuously to track progress of the projects. 

This comes in the wake of the government's landslide defeat at the Local government election. Many ministers of the government pointed out that one of the main reasons for the government's defeat was difficulties faced by the farming community in Sri Lanka.
