Twenty-Four Suspects Arrested For Unruly Behaviour In Digana Remanded Till March 19

The 24 suspects arrested by Police in Digana yesterday for unruly behavior, were this morning remanded until March 19.

The suspects were arrested for causing mayhem and damage in the town of Digana in Kandy yesterday.

Mobs of men linked to ultra-Buddhist organizations descended on Kandy yesterday after a Sinhalese three-wheel driver was killed by four Muslims.

The mob set fire to Muslim shops and houses and caused mayhem on the streets, prompting police to use tear gas to disperse the crowds.

A police curfew was imposed on the Kandy district last night but lifted at 6 am today.

Police however extended the curfew imposed on the Teldeniya and Pallakelle areas till 6pm today.
