The Police Officer who asked for the Identity Card of UNP Parliamentarian Edward Gunasekera has been transferred with immediate effect. 

The officer, a Sub Inspector attached to the Divulapitiya Police, asked for the ID card of the Parliamentarian during a public gathering in the area. 

The Parliamentarian and his supporters censured the Police officer for not knowing a Parliamentarian who represented the area for nearly 20 years. 

The Parliamentarian later complained to higher Police authorities about the conduct of the Sub Inspector.
