Sirisena Speaks Of Fake News While In London: Says 75% Of News Content In Cyber Space Is False

President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking to the Sri Lankan community in London said, 75% of new content published in the cyber space is false. 

He said such fake news and 'propaganda' contributed to the recent racially motivated violence in the Kandy district. 

The President requested all Sri Lankans living overseas not to get misled by fake news about Sri Lanka. 

He also sought their support to covey the correct information about Sri Lanka to the 'international community.'

He said the attempts to suppress the truth and spread falsehood was a hindrance to the progress of the country. 

At the same time, the President said the correct information about Sri Lanka's democratic reforms has not been communicated to the public properly.
