Fort Magistrate Re-Issues Open Warrant On Jaliya Wickramasuriya For Failing To Appear Before Court

The Fort Magistrates’ Court this afternoon re-issued an open warrant on former Sri Lankan ambassador to the USA Jaliya Wickramasuriya.

Wickramasuriya is alleged to have misappropriated USD 132, 000 while purchasing and refurbishing a building for the Sri Lankan embassy in the US.

The court imposed the arrest warrant on Wickramasuriya taking into consideration the submissions made by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) of the Police.

Wickramasuriya was permitted to travel abroad on July 10, 2017 but has failed to appear in court since.

Warrants have also been issued on Wickramasuriya’s wife and cousin who signed as sureties when he was granted bail.
