President Directs IGP To Probe False Reports On 'Civil Unrest': Says Some Group Has Deliberately 'Planted' Falsehood

President Maithripala Sirisena has directed IGP Pujith Jayasundara to probe into newspaper reports appearing in two Sinhala publications today claiming the government has instructed military forces to remain vigilant on attempts to create 'civil unrest'.

The President's Media Unit, in a statement, said there was no such communication between the leaders of the government and the heads of military.

The statement said some organization group had spread a false story.

Two Sinhala newspapers - Dinamina and Lakbima - carried the news item today. Dinamina, interestingly, a publication owned by the government.
