TRC Seals Transmission Centre Owned By TNL Following A News Segment Critical Of President's Conduct

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commissions has sealed a transmission center in Polgahawela, owned by the TNL group.

The TNL group is owned by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's elder brother Shan Wickremesinghe, a pioneer in the Sri Lankan television industry.

The TV station, in a Facebook post, confirmed that the transmission centre had been sealed by the TRC.

"The TRC is currently attempting to take our equipment into its custody. We condemn this act with the contempt it deserves as we, as a TV station, have paid due charges to the TRC." the TNL said in the statement.

The TRC comes under the purview of President Maithripala Sirisena and President's Secretary Austin Fernando functions as its Chairman.

The move comes in the wake of a new segment run by the Television station, criticizing a recent speech made by the President.
