TRC's Restrictions On TNL Come Under Severe Criticism From UNP MPs

The decision to seal the transmission centre of the TNA Rupavahini centre has come under severe criticism from the UNP MPs.

State Minister Ajith P Perera, in a Facebook post, openly condemned the restriction on the channel.

Several other MPs have also expressed their displeasure over the decision, with the party authorities.

Commenting on the matter in Parliament, Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera said he was not in a position to make a statement on the matter 'at this juncture'.

The TNL group is owned by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's elder brother Shan Wickremesinghe, a pioneer in the Sri Lankan television industry.

The TV station, in a Facebook post, confirmed that its transmission centre in Polgahawela had been sealed by the TRC.

The TRC comes under the purview of President Maithripala Sirisena and President's Secretary Austin Fernando functions as its Chairman.

The move comes in the wake of a new segment run by the Television station, criticizing a recent speech made by the President.
