Joint Opposition MP Bandula Gunawardena today filed a FR petition before Supreme Court against Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera over an advertisement the latter's ministry published on fuel prices under the previous government. 

Gunawardena said the public funds have been misused when publishing those advertisements containing wrong information. 

Therefore, Gunawardena argued, the Fundamental Rights of citizens have been violated by the Finance and Media Minister. 

Press advertisements in all three languages were published by the government  following the recent fuel price hike. The advertisements highlighted the fact that the increased fuel prices were still lower than the fuel prices under the previous government. 

Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga have also been named as a respondent in the petition.
