Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said only former President Mahinda Rajapaksa could eradicate "underworld" and criminal gangs from Sri Lanka. 

"It can be done," the Parliamentarian said, addressing a public meeting yesterday. 

"Today, the Police Media Spokesman says that the Cabinet ministers are protecting underworld leaders. What does this say about the government?" the Parliamentarian asked. 

"Even Vijayakala Maheswaran said ministers were involved in the drug trade in the North," he added. 

Rajapaksa said although Maheswaran wuit her ministerial portfolio, she was seen "holding hands" with the Prime Minister during a state function in the Northern province recently.
