Western provincial Governor Hemakumara Nanayakkara has temporarily halted the purchase of new chairs for councillors at a cost of Rs. 640000 each  

The Council initially had plans to purchase 104 chairs for all its members. 

Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya said these chairs were no different to chairs used my MPs in Parliament. 

Governor Nanayakkara made his decision following a requestabe by JVP member Lakshman Nipunaarachchi.
