SriLankan Airlines Stops Serving Nuts After Sirisena's Cashew Rage: Also Shuts The Door On Dubai-based Supplier

September 12, 2018

SriLankan Airlines has stopped serving nuts to its Business class passengers after President Maithripala Sirisena's recent outrage on "substandard cashew" offered to him on a flight.

The airlines has also reportedly shut the door on its Dubai-based cashew nuts supplier, Asian Mirror learns.

Sirisena said not even a dog could eat the cashew nuts offered to him on a SriLankan Airlines flight last week.

Addressing a farmers' event in Hambantota two days ago, an angry Sirisena asked who approved unedible cashew for the national carrier.

Sirisena's remarks, ridiculed by many on social media platforms, have made a severe impact on the struggling national carrier's global brand image.

The President's remarks have been picked up by many international media stations, including BBC, adding insult to the festering wounds of the cash-strapped national carrier which is grappling with a debt burden of USD 01 billion..

SriLankan Airlines recently hired two legendary cricketers - Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena - as brand ambassadors in a desperate attempt to revive its image and draw more businesses.

The airline, however, is yet to make an official statement on the cashew issue raised by the country's President.
