Alleged Misappropriation Of Sathosa Funds: Court Of Appeal Rejects Johnston Fernando's Bail Application

The Court of Appeal has dismissed the bail application filed by former Minister Johnston Fernando who is currently in remand over alleged misappropriation of public money.

The case has been filed with regard to misappropriations at Sathosa when Fernando was the Minister in charge of the subject. 

In his bail application, Fernando requested the Court of Appeal to grant him bail until the conclusion of the case.

 The Attorney General has filed indictment against Fernando in the Kurunegala High Court over an alleged financial misappropriation amounting to Rs. 5.02 million at Lak Sathosa.

Lak Sathosa former Chairman K. M. R. Fernando and former minister’s private secretary Raj Mohadeen Mohammad Shakeer have also been indicted in the High Court for aiding and abetting in committing this offence.

Fernando was charged under the Cooperatives Wholesale Establishment (CWE) Act, for allegedly ordering goods worth over Rs. 5.02 million be released from three warehouses at Yanthampalawa, Vehera and Mallawapiya in the Kurunegala district during the North Western Provincial Council election on September 2013.
