President Receives Persistent Calls To Recall Sri Lankan Ambassador To Qatar A.S.P. Liyanage Over Baggage Controversy

Sri Lankan government has come under continuous pressure to recall Sri Lankan ambassador to Qatar A.S.P. Liyanage after he was seen carrying the bags of the two sons of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the Qatar airport yesterday.

Asian Mirror learns that several Cabinet ministers have brought the pictures of the Ambassador's act to the attention of President Maithripala Sirisena.

There have been demands to recall Liyanage in the recent past over his alleged business deals in Qatar bringing the Sri Lankan diplomatic service into disrepute.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Rohitha Rajapaksa, two sons of the former President, visited Qatar with the CH & FC Rugby team yesterday for a friendly match and the ambassador was seen at the airport to welcome them.

The ministers had told the President that the ambassador had humiliated the entire government by carrying the bags of the former President's two sons.

However, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa posted a tweet yesterday on the controversy and said the Ambassador was at the airport to welcome the Rugby team.

"The Sri Lankan Ambassador was at the airport to receive the team. My brothers are very capable of handling malicious personal attacks on nonsensical matters but keep CH&FC out from this delirious claims," he said.
