SC Changes Archaic Dress Code For Female Lawyers: Permits Wearing Shirts, Trousers, Dresses Below Knee Length In Courts

Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has change archaic attire rules for female lawyers.

Under a new gazette notification issued in this regard, trousers, white shirts and dresses below the knee have been declared permitted attire for female lawyers.

The new laws have been devised by Chief justice Priyasad Depp and judge Eva Wanasundara, Buwaneka Aluvihare and Sisira de Abrew.

Possible amendments to the dress code of female lawyers were widely discussed in the judicial circles over a long period of time. The new Gazette, however, has been published during the incumbent Chief Justice's final week in office.
