Jayasuriya And His Lawyers Expected To Hold Press Conference Today Explaining Their Version Of Anti-Corruption Story

Former Sri Lankan Cricketer and Chairman of National Selectors Sanath Jayasuriya is expected to hold a press conference today over the charges made against him.

During the press conference, Jayasuriya and his lawyers will explain their version of the story.

The ICC has levelled two allegations against former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya as the latter has refused to hand over his mobile phone to the ICC anti-corruption authorities.

Sources familiar with the matter said, Jayasuriya, a former Chairman national selectors, had delayed handing over his mobile phone to the ICC citing "personal reasons."

The ICC had questioned Jayasuriya and several other national cricketers over the allegations levelled against them, last year.

Jayasuriya, according to the ICC, has been charged with violating two clauses of the ICC anti-corruption code, namely

"1) Article 2.4.6 – Failure or refusal, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the ACU, including failure to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the ACU as part of such investigation.
2) Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code."
