Misappropriation Of Sathosa Funds: Kurunegala Magistrate Acquits Johnston Fernando And Two Others

The Kurunegala Magistrate today acquitted  Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando over a case involving alleged misappropriation of public funds. 

The Attorney General filed indictment against Fernando in the Kurunegala High Court over an alleged financial misappropriation amounting to Rs. 5.02 million at Lak Sathosa.

Lak Sathosa former Chairman K. M. R. Fernando and former minister’s private secretary Raj Mohadeen Mohammad Shakeer were also indicted in the High Court for aiding and abetting in committing this offence.

They too were acquitted of all charges by the Kurunegala Magistrate this morning. 

Fernando was charged under the Cooperatives Wholesale Establishment (CWE) Act, for allegedly ordering goods worth over Rs. 5.02 million be released from three warehouses at Yanthampalawa, Vehera and Mallawapiya in the Kurunegala district during the North Western Provincial Council election on September 2
