President's Associate Mahinda Amaraweera Makes Shocking Statement: "Four Sri Lankan Cabinet Ministers Are RAW Spies"

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera, making another shocking statement yesterday, said four Sri Lankan Cabinet ministers were giving information to India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

"We already know who they are. We will reveal their names to the public soon," Amaraweera said addressing a gathering in Beliatte yesterday (20).

"These ministers," he said, "spoke to the reporter of 'The Hindu' after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and gave false information. The reporter herself confirmed that she spoke to four Cabinet ministers to verify information."

Amaraweera's controversial statement follows a report carried in 'The Hindu' newspaper on President Maithripala Sirisena's allegations of a conspiracy orchestrated by RAW to assassinate him. Although the report has been denied by President Sirisena's office, the publisher of the newspaper said it was a true and meticulously fact-checked story.

The Minister also demanded President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to take action on the four ministers acting as "RAW agents."

He also said they had breached the collective responsibility that should be upheld and safeguarded by all Cabinet members.

Meanwhile, commenting on Amaraweera's remarks, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said it confirmed reports on President Sirisena's accusations targeting RAW at the Cabinet meeting.

"This is a serious allegation and it confirms President Sirisena's earlier statement of an assassination attempt by RAW. Minister Amaraweera should reveal who these spies are and initiate an investigation," Rajapaksa said.
