International Pressure Mounting On Sri Lankan Political Authorities To Uphold Constitution And Maintain Rule Of Law

International pressure has mounted on President Maithripala Sirisena to uphold democracy and act in accordance with the constitution.

The US State Department has stated that it is following the developments in Sri Lanka and requested the Sri Lankan political authorities to follow the due process.

The State Department has also made it clear that the Sri Lankan government should uphold its 'Geneva commitments' to human rights, accountability, justice and reconciliation.

The European Union has also urged the Sri Lankan authorities to ensure the rule of law and abide by the constitution.

The UK government also issued a travel advisory earlier today requesting its citizens to exercise caution while in Sri Lanka and avoid all political gatherings.

The government of Australia also issued a similar warning to its citizens travelling to Sri Lanka.
