Delivering the keynote speech at the third year commemoration of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, Dr. Jayadeva Uyangoda, a prominent political scientist said, there would be a fierce confrontation between the country's legislature and the Executive in the coming days.

"In the absence of an amicable solution, the current crisis may possibly end in bloodshed," Uyangoda said, explaining his views on the political crisis that has gripped the country.

"This crisis began due to a gross violation of the Constitution. To overcome this crisis, they are trying to violate the Constitution over and over again. I hear some professors and scholars too are contributing to the current confusion. This is a politically perilous situation," Uyangoda added.

In his speech, Uyangoda urged all religious leaders, community leaders, civil activists, and senior citizens to come forward and intervene in resolving the current political crisis. He said the task of finding a solution to the prevailing crisis should not be left to the political organizations alone.

He said only a moral intervention of that nature could save Sri Lanka from the escalating crisis.

"In the absence of such an approach," he warned, "the prevailing political crisis might slide into a bloodshed."
