Over 10 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court thus far challenging the dissolution of Parliament by President Maithripala Sirisena. 

Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole, a member of the independent Elections Commission, was also among the petitioner. 

In addition, UNP Parliamentarians Ajith P Perera, Kabir Hashim, TPA Leader Mano Ganeshan, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake , the Centre for Policy Alternatives and Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan were also among the petitioners. 

Five political parties representing Parliament have so far claimed that they will challenge dissolution of Parliament in the Supreme Court.
