SLFP Group Led By Duminda Dissanayake Likely To Remain Independent In Parliament: Holds Several Rounds Of Discussion With CBK

November 25, 2018

A group led by SLFP National Organizer Duminda Dissanayake is likely to remain independent in Parliament from next week, informed party sources told Asian Mirror.

The group, the sources said, had held several rounds of discussions with former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on the new move.

It is also learnt that this group is planning to form an alliance with the UNF and other parties supporting Wickremesinghe at the next Parliamentary election.

Dissanayake and several MPs of this group had not taken part in Parliamentary sessions since the outbreak of the political crisis on October 26, sparked by the appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.

Earlier this month, however, Dissanayake took oaths as a Cabinet minister of the Sirisena-Rajapaska government after much persuasion.

Sources close to Kumaratunga said the 'real support base' of Rajapaksa in Parliament was less than 90 MPs - a claim vehemently rejected by the UPFA group.
