UNP Postpones Rally Scheduled For December 13 To December 17 Expecting Supreme Court Ruling Later This Week

December 10, 2018

The United National Party has postponed the rally scheduled for December 13 to December 17, as the Supreme Court ruling on the dissolution of Parliament is expected later this week, UNP MP Harin Fernando said.

The protest is expected to be held at the Galle Face Green, in the vicinity of the Presidential Secretariat. They will demand immediate reinstatement of Ranil Wickremesinghe, who commands a majority support in Parliament, as the Prime Minister.

However, the UNP will move a motion in Parliament on December 12 expressing support to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The UNP and the TNA parliamentarians are expected to vote in favour of the confidence motion.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking at an event in Polonnaruwa yesterday, said he would abide by the Supreme Court ruling on the dissolution of Parliament.
