Speaker Informs President That Confidence Motion Was Duly Passed In Parliament: President- Speaker Talk On Resolving Crisis

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has officially informed President Maithripala Sirisena that the confidence motion supporting UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe was duly passed in Parliament. 

The Speaker has also told the President that the motion was passed in the House in accordance with Standing Orders and other relevant provisions. 

Jayasuriya, in a statement this evening, confirmed that he conveyed the outcome of the vote to President Sirisena. 

President Sirisena has held discussions with Jayasuriya over resolving the current political crisis. 

The confidence vote was passed in Parliament with 117 MPs from the UNP and the TNA voting in favour. 

The JVP MPs abstained from voting and no member voted against the motion. The UPFA MPs boycotted the parliamentary proceedings.
