UPDATE: Supreme Court Verdict On Dissolution Of Parliament Confirmed Today At 4 PM

Latest reports confirm that the Supreme Court's verdict on the dissolution of Parliament will be delivered today at 4 PM. 

The verdict will be a historic one and will also draw the attention of the international community. The case on the premature dissolution of Sri Lankan Parliament is considered to be a landmark case in the global judicial sphere. 

Many Parliamentarians representing all political parties in Parliament and a large number of civil society activists are expected to be present in the courtroom to hear the verdict being delivered. 

A seven-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Nalin Jayalath Perera, heard the case. 

Thirteen petitioners and five intervening petitioners have filed submissions in the Supreme Court over four days. 

President Maithripala Sirisena has publicly claimed that he will respect the ruling of the case and make political decisions accordingly. 

The United National Party postponed its mass demonstration to December 17 expecting the ruling of the case later this week.
