December 19, 2018

Former Ministers D.M. Swaminathan and Thilak Marapana are unlikely to take up ministerial positions in the new Cabinet.

Both Swaminathan and Marapana are national list MPs appointed by the UNP.

They have volunteered to remain as MPs to support Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's efforts to limit the new Cabinet to 30.

Former Minister Malik Samarawickrama also stated yesterday that he would not take up a Cabinet post.

Although Mano Ganesan and Rishad Bathiudeen informed the Prime Minister that they did not want ministerial portfolios, informed UNP sources said they would be appointed ministers.
