Uva CM Chamara Sampath Raises Severe Objections Against Appointment Of Keerthi Tennakoon As Governor: Tennakoon Transferred To South

Newly-appointed Governor of the Uva Provincial Council Keerthi Tennakoon has been transferred out of the province by President Maithripala Sirisena due to severe objections by Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dissanayake.

Dissanayake severely objected to the appointment and threatened to resign from his post, if Tennakoon continued as the Uva Province Governor.

Tennakoon headed an elections monitoring organization named 'Caffe' and also functioned as a pro-Sirisena civil society acrivist, before his appointment as a Governor.

Following severe objections by his own party member, President Sirisena transferred Tennakoon to the Southern Province.

Senior lawyer Marshal Perera was then appointed the new Governor of the Uva province.

Marshal Perera is the father of SLFP stalwart and former State Minister Dilan Perera.
