President Maithripala Sirisena today appointed another commission to probe alleged acts of corruption during the period between January 15, 2015 and December 31, 2018.

Retired judge Upali Abeyratne will serve as the Chairman of the Commission while retired judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawarsna, former Auditor General K.A. Premathilake, former Ministry Secretary Lalith R. de Silva and former DIG Vijaya Amarasinghe.

However, the exact cases that will be probed by the Commission have not been announced yet. The Gazette notification related to the appointment of the Commission indicates that the mandate of the Commission is similar to that of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) appointed in 2015.
