Karunaratne's Medical Reports "Positive": Sri Lankan Opener Will Come Out To Bat Tomorrow To Save Struggling Team

February 02, 2019

Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne will come out to bat tomorrow to save the struggling team, Sports Minister Harin Fernando confirmed.

Karunaratne was stretchered out of the ground today after being hit by a bouncer from Australian paceman Patt Cummins.

The Sri Lankan opener, who was at 46 at the time he was taken out of the ground by support staff, remained under close medical attention for several hours.

Sri Lanka Cricket authorities say Karunaratne's medical reports are "positive" and he will be discharged from hospital tonight.

Karunaratne is arguably the most consistent Sri Lankan Test batsman in recent times and he even secured a slot in the ICC Test team for 2018.

Sri Lanka is currently at 123 for three wickets after a mammoth first innings score by Australians who ripped the visitors' second-string bowling attack apart.

Kusal Janith Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva were at the crease at the end of the second day's play.
