ICC Confirms Akhila Dhananjaya's Remodelled Bowling Action Is Legal: Recalled To Sri Lankan Squad For ODI Series Against South Africa

February 18, 2019

The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the remodeled bowling action of Sri Lankan spinner Akhila Dhananjaya is legal.

Dhananjaya underwent a test at Sri Ramachandra Institute in Chennai, earlier this month, to ascertain whether his remodeled bowling action is legal.

Upon the ICC's confirmation, Dhananjaya has been called to the Sri Lankan squad for the ODI squad against South Africa.

Dhananjaya was banned from bowling in international cricket after his bowling action was deemed illegal by the ICC last year.

The ICC said some of his deliveries exceeded the permitted 15 degree bend for spin bowlers.

Dhananjaya has been Sri Lanka's main strike bowler in ODI cricket in the recent months.

Dhananjaya underwent a test in Brisbane, Australia, on his bowling action last month.

His bowling action was reported during the 1st Test match of the bilateral series against England, in which Sri Lanka suffered a whitewash 3-0.
