Controversial Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake Publicizes His Own Medical Reports To Prove That He Is Not A Drug User

February 23, 2019

Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake today published his own personal medical reports to prove that he was not a drug user.

While making his own medical reports public, Ramanayake challenged other politicians to do the same and clear their names.

Ramanayake recently said 24 Parliamentarians including Cabinet, state and deputy ministers were users of drugs.

His remarks set off a firestorm of criticism and the UNP even appointed a committee to investigate the matter.

Ramanayake yesterday appeared before the committee, headed by Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella, that is investigating the claims made by Ramanayake on ministers and deputy ministers using dangerus drugs including Cocaine.

The UNP-appointed committee comprises Kiriella, UNP national list MP Ashu Marasinghe and Lawyer Nissanka Nanayakkara.

Kiriella is expected to present the report of the committee to the next Working Committee meeting of the UNP.

Ramanayake's claims have earned severe criticism from UNP parliamentary group with many claiming that the Deputy Minister's remarks have plunged the government into a state of embarrasment.
