Well-Known Buddhist Monk And Former Parliamentarian Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera Acquitted Of All Charges From Baby Elephant Case

Prominent Buddhist monk and former Parliamentarian Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera has been acquitted of all charges from the case over illegally owing a baby elephant.

The baby elephant was recovered by the Police and Wild Life officials from the monk's temple "Allen Methiniyaramaya" in Colombo.

Dhammaloka Thera was indicted on two counts for allegedly keeping a baby elephant without a valid licence in his temple in Colombo.

Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara appeared for the Attorney General. President’s Counsel Prasantha Lal de Alwis and Counsel Maheshi de Silva, Chamara Wannisekara, Oshan Ubhayaratne and Samith Kalhara appeared for the accused.
