Police Say 15 People Who Posted "False Information" About Traffic OIC Accident Would Be Summoned To Court To Give Evidence

Police said today that measures would be taken to summon 15 people, who posted false information on Facebook about the hit and run involving Traffic OIC of Borella police Ananda Sagara Sarathchandra who died on Saturday, to court to give evidence.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo this morning, DIG Ajith Rohana said the police were in possession of evidence to confirm that the person who was remanded over the accident was the one who drove the vehicle which knocked over the police officer.

Rohana said the evidence would be made accessible to the media after the identification parade.

The DIG said those who posted false information on Facebook had implicated other people in the accident.

UPFA MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage's son Ranishka Aluthgamage, UNP Colombo Municipal Councillor Duminda Attygalle and SP Prasanna Ratnayake's son were arrested over the incident.

Ratnayake was remanded by the Magistrate two weeks ago while others were released on bail.
