The chairman of Kolonnawa Urban Council Ravindra Udayashantha who was held in remand custody for alledgely assaulting Council Deputy Chairman with a firearm was today released on bail by Colombo Additional Magistrate after police decided to withdraw firearm charges against him.

The Mirihana Special Investigation Unit told Additional Magistrate Nirosha Fernando that there were no evidence to prove that the chairman had possessed a pistol to carry out the attack on Deputy Chairman Suresh Kodagoda. Accordingly suspect was ordered to be released on a surety bail of Rs.100,000.
