Ravi Karunanayake Says Sri Lanka Will Build Floating Power Plant By November: Project To Add 100 MW To National Electricity Grid

Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said the Ceylon Electricity Board would set up a floating solar power plant in Maduruoya, with the Canadian assistance.

Karunanayake, addressing an event today, added that the project was a brainchild of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Minister said the establishment of the plant could be completed by November this year, and it would add 100 MW to the national electricity grid.

Karunanayake thanked the Canadian government for responding to the President's request and offering to set up the floating power plant.

Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Ministry has assured that there will be no power cuts in the country from tomorrow.

The decision comes following the CEB's move to purchase 500 MW of electricity from the private sector to overcome the current power crisis.
