Free Media Movement Decides To Boycott Presidential Media Awards Ceremony: Writes To Media Min. Secretary Explaining Reasons For Their Decision

The Free Media Movement (FMM) has decided to boycott the Presidential Media Awards ceremony taking place in Colombo this evening.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, a spokesman from the FMM added that a letter had been sent to the Secretary to the Media Ministry informing that the FMM would not attend the state-sponsored award ceremony.

The organization had made it clear in the letter that the current government had failed to adequately probe violence on journalists.

The Presidential Media Awards ceremony will take place this evening under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Media Minister Ruwan Wijewardena are also expected to attend the event.
