UPFA MP Piyal Nishantha Currently Being Questioned By CID For Erroneously Claiming That 11 Soldiers Had Died In Sainthamardu Explosion

UPFA Parliamentarian Piyal Nishantha is currently being questioned by the CID for erroneously claiming that 11 security forces members had died during the explosions in Santhanardu, Kalmunai, last week. The Army and the Police officially confirmed that no security forces member had died during the explosions which killed nearly 10 terrorists who were hiding in a safe house. Despite the Army's confirmations, Nishantha publicly claimed that 11 soldiers had died and blamed the government for jeopardizing security forces. Many observers claimed that Nishantha's remarks were aimed at inciting civil unrest in the country. Finance Minister Mangala Samaarweera lodged a formal complaint with the CID to initiate an investigation into Piyal Nishantha's claims and initiate legal action against the Parliamentarian.
