Police Arrest Namal Kumara, Amith Weerasinghe And Thirteen Others Over Racially Orchestrated Violence

The Police have arrested Namal Kumara, Mahasohon Balakaya Leader Amith Weerasinghe and 13 others over racially-orchestrated violence in several parts of the country yesterday.

Namal Kumara, a one-time military deserter, was the one who first revealed about the alleged conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena. Kumara was seen alongside Dayasiri Jayasekera yesterday, at the Hettipola Police station, where the latter secured the release of four suspects who were arrested over mob violence.

Thirteen people have been arrested over violence in the Minuwangoda area last evening.

Meanwhile, the Police said it set up a new unit to monitor hate speech on social media and arrest the culprits.
