Presidential Secretariat Calls For Report On Ganansara Thera Ahead Of Controversial Monk's Possible Release

The Presidential Secretariat has called for a report from the Prisons Department on Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Ganansara Thera who is currently serving a 6-year imprisonment.

This comes amid reports that President Maithripala Sirisena is preparing to release the controversial Buddhist monk on a presidential person.

Sources close to the Presidential Secretariat said the announcement of Gnanasara Thera's release would be announced after the submission of the Prison Department's report.

President Sirisena met Gnanasara Thera last week when he visited the Welikada prison.

Gananasara Thera was convicted last week for contempt of court when he threatened missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife, Sandhya Ekneligoda.
