Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara Files Fundamental Rights Petition Seeking Interim Order Preventing President Sirisena From Firing Him

IGP Pujith Jayasundara has filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an interim order preventing President Maithripala Sirisena from removing him from offie.

Jayasundara was sent on compulsory leave by President Sirisena following the Easter Sunday explosions.

The Police Chief refused to step down from his position, defying directives by President Maithripala Sirisena.

As a result, Sirisena was forced to appoint Wickremaratne as the Acting IGP, sidelining Jayasundara.

Wickremaratne's appointment as the Acting IGP was approved by the Constitutional Council.
