Sixth Round Of Discussions Between SLPP And SLFP Postponed Till June 26

The 6th round of discussions between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has been postponed to June 26.

The exact reason for the postponement is not yet clear, informed political sources said.

The discussions aim to form a common alliance between the two parties before the next national elections.

It is however learnt that the discussions have come to a deadlock with the SLFP exerting pressure on the SLPP to accept President Maithripala Sirisena as the presidential candidate of the common alliance.

Informed sources said the SLPP was averse to the proposal and determined to field its own candidate.
