Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa Says He Will Not Allow Government To Postpone Presidential Election

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would not allow the government to postpone the Presidential election.

Addressing a meeting with artistes, Rajapaksa said his camp would field a patriotic candidate who could win the Presidential election.

"We will also formulate national policies covering key aspects of the country, " Rajapaksa added.

"They postponed the Provincial Council elections and the Parliamentary election. Postponing elections is not good for the country. We will make sure that the Presidential election takes place as scheduled, " he added.

Rajapaksa also said the government should accept the responsibility for the breakdown of security in the country. "People are afraid to go back to places of worship. It is the government's fault and the leaders of the government can't wash their hands off."
