Attorney General Instructs Acting IGP To Name Pujith Jayasundara And Hemasiri Fernando In Case Over Easter Sunday Explosions

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has instructed Acting IGP Senior DIG C.D. Wickramaratne to name IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando as suspects in the Easter Sunday attack and produce them in court.

The Attorney General previously instructed the Acting IGP to initiate criminal action on Jayasundara and Fernando over their failure to avert the Easter Sunday explosions.

De Livera has also recommended disciplinary and criminal action against nine senior Police officers, including three DIGs, over the same matter.

Jayasundara has also filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court challenging the President's decision to send him on compulsory leave.

It is still not clear whether Fernando and Jayasundara will be arrested following the Attorney General's instructions.
