Prime Minister Requests Elections Commission Chairman Not To Resign From Office Before National Elections

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya not to resign from office.

Deshapriya previously said he would resign from office before the end of this year, if the government failed to hold the Provincial Council elections before the Presidential election.

Wickremesinghe, however, has met Deshapriya in Parliament to discuss matters relating to upcoming elections.

The Prime Minister has urged the Elections Commission Chairman to remain in office as two important national elections are expected to take place soon.

Wickremesinghe has told Deshapriya to prepare for the elections and has assured full support on all matters.
