Cricket Overhaul In The Offing: Harin Asks Coaching Staff To Resign: High-Powered Committee Comprising Three Ex-National Players To Be Appointed

Sports Minister Harin Fernando has requested the coaching staff of the Sri Lankan cricket team to step down after the bilateral series against Bangladesh in August.

This includes Sri Lanka's head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe who was hired at an exorbitant salary targeting the ICC World Cup in 2019.

After Sri Lanka's lacklustre performance at the ICC World Cup, sports authorities are now calling for the removal of Hathurusinghe.

It is reported that Sri Lanka Cricket has sought the Attorney General's Department's advice on terminating Hathurusinghe's contract which will remain valid unti 2020.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to appoint a high-powered committee comprising three former national players to make key decisions pertaining to the coaching staff and other related matters. SLC sources said the arrangement is similar to that of the cricket advisory committee in India where three former players namely Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Lakshman make vital decisions relating to the appointments of coaching staff and selectors.
