The case against Dr. Shafi Shiyabdeen is currently being heard before the Kurunegala Magistrate.

Although the case deals with unconsented sterlization on women in Kurunegala. the CID has informed court it has found no evidence to take legal action against the doctor. It is widely speculated that Dr.Shafi will be released on bail today.

The case was also discussed at the Parliamentary Select Committee probing Easter Sunday attacks yesterday.

CID Director Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne explained to the committee members the background of the investigation carried out into surgeries performed by Dr. Shafi.
