Lawyers Files Fundamental Rights Petition Against Recent President's Counsel Appointments: Petitioner Says 75 PCs Appointed Without Criteria

Lawyer Upul Kumarapperuma filed a Fundamental Rights petition over discrepancies in appointing President's Counsels in the recent past.

In his petition, Kumarapperuma argued that proper procedure had not been followed when appoiting President's Cousels over the past three years.

He added 75 lawyers have been appointed President's Counsel in the recent past. without taking into consideration their seniority in service and service to the judiciary.

As a result, Kumarapperuma said his fundamental rights have been violated by President Maithripala Sirisena.

The FR petition was taken up today before justices Priyantha Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya and Padman Surasena.
